Nicholls creates fund to support to students affected by flooding
The Nicholls Foundation is sponsoring an online crowd-funding campaign to provide financial assistance to the students affected by the recent flooding in Louisiana.
In an email sent to the students this Wednesday afternoon, Nicholls State University President Bruce Murphy shared that the funds raised during the campaign will compose a Flood Emergency Relief fund aimed to minimize the additional burden the tragedy put on affected Colonels.
“Some members of our Nicholls community and their families have suffered damage, and affected students now face unanticipated costs and possibly the loss of college necessities like books, supplies, clothing and campus residence items,” Murphy said.
To receive the donations, the university opened an online portal at nicholls.edu/relief and is also accepting check contributions at the University Advancement Office. The crowd-funding campaign is scheduled to run until the end of August.
The students in need of financial assistance were advised to visit the Office of Student Affairs or call 985-448-4022 for information regarding the relief funds.
“One of the things that makes our Nicholls family so special is the outpouring of care and concern for our community. By coming together, we can help ensure that our affected Colonels get through these challenges and reach their dreams of earning a college degree,” Murphy said.
The Nicholls community was also oriented to coordinate any relief effort organized by a university group with university-sponsored outreach and volunteer efforts.
