Delta Zeta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon win Songfest
Delta Zeta sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity came out on top in performances Thursday night at Songfest, the culmination of Greek Week competitions.
Chelsea Bergeron, a Nicholls alumnus and one of the hosts of Songfest said, “It’s just so fun to see the whole Greek community come together and even part of the community outside of Nicholls coming together in support of Greek Life. All the sororities and fraternities look forward to it year round. It’s like Christmas day for fraternity and sorority members. Some have been working since December on these plays and whoever wins is like winning the Olympics.”
Many of the groups were confident that the work they had contributed would not only bring a good show but more importantly a display of Greek love among their respective sororities and fraternities. Blaire Verdun, freshman accounting major and member of Sigma Sigma Sigma said before their performance, “I don’t have much speculation about who will win but I know that Sigma is ready to bring it. We’re ready to have fun and show what our sisterhood is all about because we love what we do.”
Lauren Naquin, sophomore education major and President of Phi Mu said, “Sometimes with our busy schedules we can’t always get together but with having practices for Songfest definitely helps us get closer and its just nice to see everyone in one place besides our Monday meetings.”
The fraternities put in a significant amount of work towards their performances as well. Austin Bergeron, freshman nursing major and member of SAE said, “It was well over a month that we’ve been practicing, a certain amount of days each week that we went for sometimes four hours at a time making sure the performance is 100 percent.”
Parker Naquin, senior business major and four-year member of Kappa Sigma said, “We always hope to win but we also truly tried to make it enjoyable for everyone that comes out to watch, kids and adults alike.”
