Students look forward to fall activities and fashion
With fall approaching, Nicholls State University students look forward to Colonel football, bonfires, Starbucks’ famous pumpkin spice latte and all of the latest fashion trends.
The first day of fall will take place on Sept. 23, which means temperatures will begin to be cooler and coffee will be ordered hotter. Other than those changes, cheering on the Nicholls football team and seeing what Tim Rebowe has in store for his first season as the Colonel head football coach are what students are looking forward to the most.
“I’m really looking forward to Saturday night football games at the John L. Guidry Stadium,” Addie Himmel, mass communication major, said. “Homecoming is also a really exciting time on campus that brings all of the students together.”
Being outdoors and enjoying the weather is optimal for students on campus during fall.
“I’m really excited to cheer on our Colonels this year,” Alondra Medrano, mass communication major, said. “My favorite thing about the fall is all of the bonfires I will be attending, though.”
Another student favorite is Starbucks’ signature espresso, the pumpkin spice latte, which returned on Sept. 2. Pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove flavors are combined and topped with whipped cream and real pumpkin pie spices to create the fall favorite, served either hot or iced, that is loved and ordered by many.
“I’m so happy that the pumpkin spiced latte is back,” Medrano said. “It’s my favorite drink offered by Starbucks and I look forward to it every year.”
This is also the time when new fall trends start to emerge. According to Glamour magazine, chunky-knit sweaters, flare jeans and long-line blazers with heels are some of the new trends that are happening in fashion for fall of 2015. Cosmopolitan magazine also named the eight hottest fall trends which included velvet anything, long pleated skirts, jumpsuits, high-waisted pants, Victorian blouses, suede skirts, long floral dresses and over-the-knee boots that “you need to buy now.”
“Along with our fall softball season I am beyond excited to break out all of my fall clothes and enjoy some bonfires with my friends and family,” Payton Gremillion, nursing major, said. “Long-sleeve shirts, vests, leggings and my tall boots will be my go-to outfit for this fall.”
Beside high-fashion styles, students are looking forward to scarves, leggings, booties, big sweatshirts, plaids and their favorite beanies.
“My favorite things to wear during the fall are hoodies and jeans,” Jacob Smith, business management major, said. “They’re comfortable, easy and go with everything.”
