Women’s basketball looking to regain win streak
The Nicholls State University Women’s basketball team hopes to regain their win streak against The University of Central Arkansas after a loss to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
The team’s first loss to Corpus Christi this past Saturday broke a three game winning streak for the Colonels. They now hold the 5th position in the Southland Conference and have an overall record of 7-9.
“We let the Corpus Christi game slip away, but the best way to come back from it is to play the best. This week we played the number one team in conference, and we intended to make up for the loss,” Head Coach, DoBee Plaisance said.
The Colonels traveled to Natchitoches, Louisiana to play the Northwestern Demons Wednesday who holds the top SLC position. Saturday the team will continue their quest for victory against Central Arkansas Bears.
“I’m excited. It was a big opportunity against Northwestern because they’re first in conference. Central Arkansas is a really good team, so that would be a really good win. Hopefully we can come out 2-0,” senior guard, Jenny Nash said.
The Colonels are currently number one in conference for defense.
“We let one slip this past weekend, but we are still in a pretty good position,” Nash said. “I think for the rest of the season we can just take care of ourselves.”
The team plans to improve their zone defense by reading and attacking to create more opportunities on offense for future conference games.
“I think the biggest thing we need to work on is fluidity on offense. Our defense has been really good for us and that’s what created a lot of our offense,” Nash said. “Once we get into half court sets we have trouble moving and working together. I think if we can learn to work together on offense we can go further.”
