The Nicholls State University Colonels football team looks forward to their first win of the season during Homecoming against the University of Incarnate Word Cardinals this Saturday.

Last weekend, the Colonels traveled to Houston Baptist University to play the Huskies. The Colonels played the Huskies for the first time and lost in the final minutes. The Colonels have lost a record 15 consecutive games dating back to last season. Senior Quarterback Beaux Hebert passed for 186 yards on 17 completions with one touchdown, and one interception. Hebert threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Demon Bolt in the third quarter.

The Colonels went into half time down 17-7. The Colonels scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 21-17 lead, but the Huskies rallied to score 14 unanswered points to defeat the Colonels 31-21. The teams mirrored each other with Nicholls finishing with 373 total yards, and the Huskies finishing with 393 total yards.
Bolt led the team with 73 receiving yards on three catches.

The Colonel’s defensive leaders were senior linebacker Davin Bovie, who had 11 tackles, while defensive back B.T. Sanders added 10.

This weekend, Interim Head Coach Steve Axman hopes to pull out a win for the fans.

“We want to win a game for the home crowd and put some smiles on people’s faces in a positive way,” Axman said.
Senior Quarterback Beaux Hebert remembers fondly of his first Homecoming game as a freshman.

Hebert said, “My favorite game was my freshman season. I think it was Homecoming, and we beat Bacone College.”
For the seniors, this Homecoming game is particularly special.

Hebert said of his last homecoming game, “I think it’s a different atmosphere for the homecoming game. I feel the students are more excited, and it adds excitement around the campus.”

“Its kind of bittersweet just knowing it’s my last homecoming game in college. It’s kind of tough knowing its coming to an end. I know its coming up, but I’m not really prepared for it,” Quarterback Kalen Henderson said.
“Playing my last homecoming game is a bittersweet feeling, because our season hasn’t gone the way we thought. At the end of the day, I’m still with my closest friends. I feel that I should cherish it. I feel that it will be an emotional night,” Bovie said. “Homecoming is for all the marbles. That one fan that doesn’t come to a regular home game will come out to the homecoming game just for the name of it.”
