Homecoming Court is recognized at the Homecoming Barbeque on Oct. 26.

The 2014 Homecoming Court is preparing for the game Saturday with many school activities to participate in this week.

Of the 34 girls nominated for homecoming court, Fallon Authement, Lillie Bourgeois, Macy Doucet, Meagan Kenny, Carolanne Moore and Mary Sauce were the seven who received the most votes. The seven boys out of 32 were: Adam Doucet, Gage Duet, Terry Dupre Jr., Jarrett Gilliam, Beaux Hebert, Adam Lefort and Nicholas Martin.

“I am so honored, and I feel so blessed to have made homecoming court,” Kenny, secondary English junior from Cypress, Texas, said.

Kenny said her first year of college was intimidating coming from Texas to a university without any close friends or family, and to have the student body vote for her is the biggest honor.

Student Government Association President Lefort, said, “I am truly humbled and speechless by making court, because it is a huge honor knowing that the student body votes. It’s an experience I hope to never forget.”

The Homecoming Court has planned to attend every activity put on by the University, which is open to the whole student body. Tonight, there will be Alive at Five on the campus recreation fields. At 8 p.m., there will be the Homecoming Bonfire, which Lefort said is the event he is most excited about. Because of its traditional value, the bonfire is something Lefort wanted to bring back to Nicholls since being elected president. He is excited to see it actually happening and to be a part of it.

Tomorrow, they will participate in the first-ever Trunk-or-Treat, which will be held near the Student Union Parking lot at 4:30 p.m. The homecoming girls have decided to dress alike as pumpkins, and all the boys will dress as farmers.

Kenny said the whole court decided to put effort into making every Nicholls event in order to relish their time for homecoming week. She said that the past queen, Chelsie Bergeron, encouraged them to do the most they could together because it was the best experience she had at Nicholls and wants the same for this year’s homecoming court.

Sunday, there was the Homecoming Kick-Off Barbeque that Lefort said was a huge success. On Monday, the court had its annual Homecoming Breakfast and Dance. Emilie Ulicsni, on Student Programming Association executive board, said the students had so much fun at the breakfast, and she saw them use the night to their advantage by gathering with their friends and student organizations.

Kenny said there were also events that the homecoming court participated in with Nicholls Alumni, outside of campus involvement, such as Alumni Meet and Greet. This was where the court met with alumni at the Carmel Inn in Thibodaux to talk about their love and school spirit for Nicholls. It was a chance to represent Nicholls outside of the university.

On Saturday, the court will meet in the center room to socialize before the game with Nicholls President Bruce Murphy and some alumni. After that, the court will go to a designated spot in the stands where they can watch the game together. Then during halftime, they will walk on the field with their escorts and the announcement of homecoming king and queen will follow.

The King and queen are chosen by popular vote, taken from the votes that were already drawn to make homecoming court. Lefort said he thinks the people who were nominated all deserve to be king or queen because each student represents Nicholls well and that there is not one person who doesn’t deserve it.

Kenny said, “Nicholls Homecoming is such a great experience, and it is truly amazing to fall in love with a campus and have the people fall in love with you back.”
