Students and their families are invited to celebrate “Fete de la Famille” Saturday at 10:30 a.m. next to John L. Guidry Stadium. The festivities include live music by Treater, a swampop band; and numerous food booths offering jambalaya, hamburgers, Godfather’s Pizza, nachos, cotton candy, soft drinks and more.
The event will include several large inflatables, face painting and booths to make sand art collectibles, according to University Relations.
Brenda Haskins, executive director of Auxiliary Services, said Family Day affords students and their families a relaxing, fun event.
“We enjoy the opportunity to meet parents of students and want them to feel our appreciation for their students attending our university,” Haskins said. “And younger brothers and sisters can learn about Nicholls as well.”
Several departments and organizations, including the nursing department, will have booths and interactive games for children, according to University Relations.
The nursing booth, themed “Monster M.A.S.H.,” features games such as “pin the stethoscope on the nurse” and wheel chair races, Kelly Graffagnino, nursing professor and the nursing booth coordinator, said.
The biology department will have a booth along with the Ag Club and the Biological Society featuring “tou-lou-lou” or fiddler crab races, bottled organs, a skeleton and farm animal petting, Earl Melancon, biological sciences professor said.
Other organizations that have booths at Family Day include various sororities and fraternities, the Student Government Association, Student Educators and Leaders., the Dyslexia Center, Radio and Television New Directors Association and others, Haskins said.
The Bookstore will also have a booth selling Nicholls merchandise featuring the athletic logo.
First, second and third places will be given to three department and three organization booths, Jennifer White, Auxiliary Services coordinator and Student Programming Association adviser, said.
According to University Relations, tickets purchased for use at food booths will also be good at concession stands inside the stadium during the Nicholls-Assumption College football game at 2 p.m. Family Day participants may purchase half-price tickets to the football game from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at West Gate 2 and East Gate 1 of the stadium.
