Homecoming festivities continue today with the parade at 5 p.m. starting at John L. Guidry Stadium followed by the bonfire in the field next to South Babington Hall. The local cover band “No Idea” will play for the bonfire and is sponsored by the Student Programming Association and the Residence Hall Association.
“I am looking forward to the parade and the bonfire the most because I get to ride with my fraternity brothers,” said Jordan Spencer, culinary arts junior from Zachary.
Students, alumni, faculty and staff can perform original poetry, music or stand-up comedy at the Poetry Slam tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the Bollinger Memorial Student Union. Afterward there will be a block party with dancing, music, food and beverages in front of Bollinger Memorial Student Union.
Alumni are hosting a golf tournament Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at the Bayou Country Club. They are also hosting a tennis tournament on campus at 8:30 a.m.
Debbie Raziano, director or alumni affairs and University chairperson for Homecoming, said she would like everyone to come out and support the Colonels as a community.
The Greek alumni reception is at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Plantation Suite of Bollinger Memorial Student Union. This event is a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Greek life at Nicholls, and all fraternity and sorority members are invited to the reception.
The Homecoming buffet and pep rally will be held on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the quad. The 2006 Homecoming court will be announced, and Nicholls will recognize an outstanding alumnus and alumna. The Nicholls band and cheerleading squad will lead the pep rally.
In addition, awards will be presented for the golf and tennis tournaments, athletes will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Homecoming court will be introduced.
The culmination of Homecoming week starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday with the Homecoming game. Halftime activities will include a fireworks display and the announcing of the River Bell Bounty Food Drive winner and the Homecoming King and Queen.
