The Student Government Association Senate discussed last night upcoming events on campus such as the proposed residence hall renovations. SGA President Olinda Ricard attended the Residence Hall Committee meeting Friday, where the committee discussed and reviewed the proposal for the residence halls. The committee decided to invite the company to make a formal presentation of its proposal at a meeting to be held Wednesday. Only committee members and certain Universtiy officials can attend this meeting, Ricard said.
In other business, Ricard said that the Student Educators and Leaders sponsored September 11 ceremonies went over well.
“The moment of silence for the ceremony was the first time I heard the entire snack bar go down to complete silence,” Elaine Musso, SGA secretary, said.
Some business for Family Day, which is coordinated by SGA, was also discussed. Ricard said she met with the Family Day Committee Tuesday and they discussed the duties of each department for the event. Also, Ricard said Brenda Haskins, director of auxiliary services, volunteered to purchase trophies for the departmental and student table contest.
Ricard said that in honor of the American Constitution turning 219 years old, Nicholls is celebrating by having a Constitution Week from Sept. 17 through Sept. 23. The SGA has coordinated several events during the week, Ricard said.
The University Library Committee met Monday, and the main topic discussed was a Friends of the Library organization, Brittni Lipscomb, University College Senator, said. Lipscomb said the organization wants to host a luncheon during Jubilee to kick itself off.
“It’s all about improving and helping the library,” Lipscomb said.
