A memorial scholarship for those affected by cancer has been established following the death of elementary education senior Robyn Adele Ford.
The College of Education, in conjunction with Ford’s family, established the scholarship for full-time teacher education majors who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need and have been affected by cancer, either as a survivor or one who is currently battling the disease.
A letter must also be submitted explaining how he or she embodies Ford’s personal attributes in his or her professional goals. Members of the scholarship fund will select a recipient based on these criteria.
The scholarship will first be established as an “in-and-out” scholarship, with funds deposited and raised each semester by the Nicholls Friends of Education. Later, Ford’s family or Friends of Education may elect to convert the scholarship to a permanently endowed award.
Ford, a PK–3 major and honor student, died on Nov. 8 after battling a rare bone cancer she was diagnosed with as a freshman. She was 23 years old.
