The Colonel baseball team continued their busy schedule competing against Tulane University, the team ranked number 14 in the nation. They then traveled to Ruston to take on Louisiana Tech in a three day triple series.
Tulane 7, Nicholls 4
The Colonel baseball team faced Tulane University Tuesday at Didier Field in front of 1, 284 fans. After nearly three hours of competition, the Green Wave came out on top defeating the Colonels 7-4 in nonconference baseball action.
In the first inning, Nicholls put a run on the board when senior Luke Muller scored on an RBI single. Tulane answered back in the fifth inning with Michael Aubrey’s two-run home run. After tacking on a run in the sixth inning, Tulane (5-2), scored three more times in the eighth inning, pounding the Colonels four hits and taking advantage of the Colonels’ one error. Nicholls closed out the scoring with two runs in its final turn at bat on RBI singles by pinch hitter Clint Joffrion and shortstop Chuck Hickman.
“This was a game of opportunity for our program,” B.D. Parker, Colonels baseball coach said. “I feel that the guys took advantage of this and did the best they could do.”
Junior left-hander David Bourg took the loss for Nicholls, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits, three runs and striking out three.

The Colonels loaded up the bus Friday to travel to Ruston for a three day match against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. The Colonels were victorious over the Bulldogs for two out of the three games played.
In the first game, after both teams scored in the opening frame, the Colonels fell behind 2-1 in the third inning as Louisiana Tech scored a run on three hits while leaving two men on base. Nicholls answered at its turn to bat as Eron Morrow connected on two RBI doubles down the left field line to score Hickman and Muller. The Bulldogs managed to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI by Brendon Haygood. Parker’s team went ahead for good in the seventh inning as junior Brad Dantonio hit a home run to center field. The Bulldogs managed to score again in the ninth inning, but it was not enough to overcome the Colonels.
In the second game, Nicholls opened the scoring in the first inning as Muller singled home Dantonio and Hickman. The Colonels added three runs in the third inning as Muller took Louisiana Tech’s Casey Blalock deep, scoring Anderson and Dantonio. The Bulldogs then scored five runs in innings four through six as the Colonels put one run on the board after Dantonio led off the fifth with his second home run of the season. The Colonels closed out the scoring in the seventh as Anderson hit a three-run home run.
On the third day of competition, Louisiana Tech scored its runs in the bottom of the fourth on two RBI doubles by John Brandon. Nicholls, which left 12 runners on base for the day, finally took advantage of its final turn at the plate, scoring a pair of runs to tie the contest. With Dantonio on first and Joffrion on second, Hickman singled to center field to score Joffrion. One batter later, Anderson singled home Dantonio. In the bottom of the inning, LTU’s Bart Dugdale ended the game with an RBI single to center.
“This was a tough road trip and we were in a hostile environment,” Parker said. “But we played hard. The defense played really well and it looks like the offense is coming around.”
The Colonels will return to action on Sunday when University of New Orleans visits Didier Field for a two-game series.
