Despite the struggling record of the men’s basketball team this season, there are still loyal fans who have made it clear that they will keep on supporting the team until the end. During a basketball game a few weeks ago against Southeatersn University, the Colonels teamed faced the harsh verbal harassment during the entire game from of hundreds of Greek groups and other Southeatern fans. In retaliation, an alumni of Nicholls has a plan to get back at the team.
Nick Nelson, alumni of Nicholls State and a huge supporter of Nicholls athletics and Dr. Glenn Antizzo, assistant professor of history and social sciences have issued a challenge to the entire Nicholls community
“I decided that it was time for Nicholls to get together and have a little fun,” Nelson said. “So I came up with a game plan.”
Nelson invites students to purchase tickets to sit behind the Southeatern team for the game in Stopher gym on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. Nelson is in search for the loudest and most spirited students to join him in taunting the Southeatern team just as they did at the last meeting between the two teams.
“We want everyone to come out and show this team what Nicholls is all about,” Antizzo said. “Remember that this is all for fun and there can’t be anything said that has profanity in it.”
Nelson has decided to award four 50 dollar prizes to the fans who can be the loudest, most spirited and most obnoxious to the other team. In order to qualify for the prize, fans must sit behind the Southeastern team the entire game. The judging will take place during the last two minutes of the game.
“Bring your wit and come and have fun,” Nelson said.
Nelson hopes that this will be a way to get the student body involved with supporting Colonel athletics.
