The Lady Colonel cross country team turned in its best finish in school history at the Southland Conference Championship meet Monday morning as they finished seventh with 200 points. The Colonel cross country team finished in eighth place for the second year in a row. “I am proud of our teams,” head coach Matt Pantusa said. “We have faced some adversity in races this season, and no one has given up.”
Leading the way for the Lady Colonels was freshman Cassie Jones who finished in 24th place with a season best time of 19:54 in the 5,000 meter race. Following behind Jones was junior Christina Sergi, who placed 32nd with a time of 20:09, and freshman Kim Prestenbach, who finished 39th with a time of 20:23.
Mikkael Larson finished in the top 25 for the men’s team with a time of 27:02 in the 8,000 meter run. Kevin Zwezdaryk and Nathan O’Connor finished in 45th and 47th places respectively.
“Everyone went out there today and competed,” Pantusa said. “It was good to see that no one of the team was intimidated. With such young teams, we have a bright future.”
The cross country teams will take to the trails at the regional championship Nov. 10 in College Station, Texas.
