Nicholls ended Homecoming week Saturday with the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen at the Nicholls vs. Southwest Texas football game during half time. The Homecoming court was presented at half-time and Corey Legendre, business junior from Thibodaux, was crowned king; and Jamie Boudreaux, health and physical education junior from Mathews, was crowned queen.
“The queen received a crown and the king received a scepter that were donated by the Student Government Association. There were also gifts given to the queen that were donated by the Athletic Department and the Alumni Federation. The other members of the Homecoming court were given flowers and pictures from the week,” Deborah Raziano, director of alumni affairs and chair of the Homecoming activities committee, said.
While the King and Queen were being announced a fireworks display sponsored by the Student Programming Association and the SGA were given.
“The one memory that I will remember is when they announced my name, everyone cheered, and the fireworks went off. It was a big honor for me,” Legendre said.
The Homecoming week was organized and sponsored by several organizations. The events included a parade, tailgating parties, golf and tennis tournaments, women’s and men’s basketball games, pep rallies and bonfire.
“The week was very enjoyable and I really enjoyed getting to know the other court members. The one memory that I will remember from the week is winning the pirogue races with Stephanie Ledet,” Boudreaux said.
Legendre expressed similar feelings.
“I enjoyed many of the events during the week. I liked the parade because I got to see everyone, the bonfire because everyone came out to show their support, and the pep rallies,” Legendre said.
The Homecoming week was not only memorable for the court but was also memorable for others involved.
“Homecoming is memorable each year. The most memorable thing is the suspense of the announcement of the Homecoming King and Queen. The curiosity of everyone is one significance,” Raziano said.
Before the week began the current King and Queen were nominated by two organizations to be put into the Homecoming court poll. The King was nominated by Phi Kappa Theta and the Delta Zeta Sorority nominated the Queen.
“It was very exciting for me to be nominated,” Legendre said.
Boudreaux expressed similar feelings.
“It was a great honor that Delta Zeta felt I should represent the sorority on the homecoming court. My first thought was that I was excited and surprised,” Boudreaux said.
Raziano said as the homecoming week ended with the football game and as a director of an event like this “I always want more participation, but I was very comfortable and thankful of those who came out to participate in all the events of the week.”
“Winning the football game put the icing on the cake for an ending to an exciting week,” Raziano said.
