The sport of golf has played a major part in the life of Jacob Lipari, a senior business management major from Houma. Lipari is a life-long resident of Houma, LA. He is a graduate of the 1997 class at Vandebilt Catholic High School. Lipari plans to graduate from Nicholls in the spring. Lipari has played golf since the age of 12. He was taught by local pro Rob Bradley of the Ellendale Country Club in Houma. In high school, he was named to the All-State golf team which influenced him greatly to continue playing the sport he had grown to love.
“In high school, golf was really fun and it later became a dream of mine to play on the collegiate level,” Lipari said.
Lipari has made his mark on the collegiate level in golf. He was named Southland Conference Golfer of the Week during the 2000 season at a tournament at UNO, and finished the 2001 fall season with a 79 scoring average.
Lipari is employed at the Houma Golf Club, and takes lessons with Tate Zyroll.
This is only the beginning for Lipari though. After graduating from Nicholls, Lipari plans to continue playing golf and working in the sporting field.
“In May, I will be turning pro. I will become an assistant teaching pro at the Houma Golf Club, and I will be part of the opening of a new golf course in Houma, and another in San Antonio, Texas,” Lipari said.
“My biggest dream is to play in the PGA Tour. That’s as extreme as it gets and I will continue to work hard to make this dream a reality,” he said. The future is bright for Lipari. He plans to continue playing golf competitively and to help bring others into the sport.
“I want to let people who are playing golf that it takes a lot of hard work,” Lipari said. “Times will get tough, but don’t give up. Don’t be afraid to get help. Get advice from PGA pros. You never know what could happen.”
The Nicholls golf team has improved over the past few years. With new faces on the team this year, the team is under reconstruction. Lipari gave an outlook for the team in the spring.
“I am sure that we will be a lot better next semester. We grew as a team this semester. It took a while for us to get everyone on the same page, but now we are working as one unit. Everyone is clicking and are ready for better play in the spring. Look for only good things from the team.”
