The Nicholls men’s golf team shot 329 to finish in 18th place in the Stephen F. Austin Crown Colony Classic last Tuesday morning. The tournament, which was hosted by Stephen F. Austin featured nine Southland Conference teams, and played at the par-72, 6,692-yard Crown Colony Country Club.
Senior Kevin Axford led the way for the Colonels, as he posted a 75 for the final day of the tournament to and finished at 236 overall, which was good enough for a tie for 50th place.
Jason Lipari, another senior, shot a final round 87, and an overall 236. He finished in 72nd place.
“It was windy and cold out there today,” said John Schilling, the head golf coach.
On the previous day of the tournament, Lipari led the way for the Colonels as he fired rounds of 74 -81 which gave him 155 and a tie for 44th place. Axford put together rounds of 84 and 77 which gave him a total score of 161 and a tie for 75th place.
Nolan Rohatyn (84-81), Billy Rase (93-88) and Sammy Weber (95-86) rounded out the Colonel contingent.
“It was a tough day out there,” Schilling said. “It just seemed like we were not on today.”
