Lady Colonels Fall To Ladies The Lady Colonels traveled to Shreveport, LA last Wednesday to compete in Southland Conference soccer action against Centenary. The Lady Colonels had trouble containing the Ladies’ offensive attack as they fell 5-0.
Nicholls State (3-9, 2-5 SLC) found it difficult to contain Centenary’s Lori Levitt who scored three of the five goals for the night. The Lady Colonel’s Angel Hotard led the team offensively taking two shots, and goalkeeper Lindsay Bartlett tallied 11 saves on the night.
Bartlett Shines in 120 Minute Battle
The Lady Colonels battled Northwestern State to a scoreless tie Friday night. Freshman netminder Lindsay Bartlett recorded nine saves as the Lady Colonels were outshot 11-7 by the defending SLC Tournament champions.
Northwestern State attempted 28 total shots in regulation as compared to six by NSU, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Sophomore Roxanna Gonzalez led Nicholls State with three shots on goal while five other Lady Colonels attempted to put the ball past NWSU goalkeeper Tiffany Swingler.
Down to just 14 healthy players, Nicholls State stopped its three-game losing streak, and somewhat resuscitated its hopes for a first ever SLC Tournament berth.
Lady Indians Too Strong For Lady Colonels
The Lady Indians of Louisiana-Monroe used goals scored by six different players to overcome the Lady Colonels 6-1 Sunday, Oct. 21 in soccer action.
Nicholls State had their only goal of the weekend 45 minutes into the game when Melissa Bonneau scored the unassisted goal. Goalkeeper Lindsay Bartlett gathered 10 saves in the loss. Louisiana-Monroe took 33 shots at the net while Nicholls State took 11.
To have any chance of qualifying for the season-ending event, Jim Zakel’s team will likely need to win all three of its remaining SLC games.
The Lady Colonels play at home tomorrow at 4 p.m. against Southwest Texas.
