With inquisitive sounds, intense lyrics, passionate expression and energy, Walk Through Walls, a five-piece band from Houma, has revolutionized the music genre of rock ‘n’ roll with the outbreak of their CD, “Walk Through Walls”. Normally, I am not a big hard rock fan nor do I usually go to live performances, but once I was able to listen to their CD I became an instant fan. I listen to the CD all the time in the office and especially when I am running or working out.
I have become addicted to their unique sound, anticipate the debut of a new Walk Through Walls CD and highly recommend the CD to anyone who wants to hear something new. Walk Through Walls is not modeled after another band, does not sing songs about the same worn down issues and has a unique flavor leaving audiences craving more of their essence.
“Our music is an ingenious combination of emotionally wounded rock ‘n’ roll with a touch of heavy experimental indie rock,” Craig Lirette, lead vocalist from Houma, said.
The CD contains everything from the intensity of “Bent Back” to the laid back beat of “Song about You”.
Walk Through Walls definitely has a different sound that becomes apparent in their songs, especially “Something more”.
“Our sound is both loud and aggressive,” Tony Bergeron, drum player from Houma, said.
Walk Through Walls was formed in Feb. 2001. Joey Hamner, guitar player from Houma, and Grant Olivier, bass player from Houma, initiated the band by simply playing music. Soon afterward Lirette joined the band playing drums. Later Marc Miller from Houma joined on guitar. While Lirette moved to New Orleans, Tony Bergeron from Houma came in to play the drums.
“Once we all came together, we began to write songs and started off from there,”Hamner said.
The guys wanted a three-word band name with a different type of phrase to fit their unique music style. According to Miller, there are several explanations of how the band chose their name but there is only one true explanation.
“While at Joey’s house, I decided to act like a comic book character and walk through walls. Since then the name “Walk Through Walls has stuck with us,” Miller said.
Their first CD “Walk Through Walls” has been a powerhouse of intense emotion and passionate expression. Their music has even lured me into their world of “ADD driven rock”. Although the music may seem a little too much for one person to digest in one sitting, once you listen to at least three songs on the album you will be indefinitely hooked to their fire lyrics and unique beat.
Songs such as “Bent Back” and “A Million to One” are motivating and powerful. Other songs such as “Talking to the Walls” and “She sank my battle ship” contain lyrics of raw emotions we have all experienced at one time or another. The unique beats in other songs such as “Track #8 and “Give You More” catch your attention.
Walk Through Walls’ creativity shines through with song names such as: “Of all of your dreams,” “Please leave a Message” and “Don’t Look Down.” The intensity of the lyrics is always forcefully expressed through Lirette’s voice, which immerses you in their passion. The inviting rhythm of Walk Through Walls lures you in their world. The end of the CD leaves you with their taste in your mouth and the desire to experience more.
The band says one of their greatest accomplishments has been to be able to play with bands such as Sparta and Lock Horns, and to have a booking agent who has scheduled them a South-by-South West Tour for 21 days this summer.
Walk Through Walls plays live shows at the Brick House in Houma and their music has also been featured in the background of the Fox extreme sports.
“All we want is to gain respect in the underground music scene and prove our consistency to audiences. Hopefully, one day we will be able to have a comfortable lifestyle playing our music,” Olivier said.
The CD only shares a portion of the ambitions and creativity Walk Through Walls has for the music genre of rock ‘n’ roll. Their live performances are even more overwhelming, emotional and energetic.
