Women’s basketball senior guard, Portia Washington, leads the Colonels this season in 3-point field goal percentage, as she has shot 44 percent from behind the arc. When asked what her biggest strength as a basketball player is, Washington was quick to say, “shooting.” In her final season as a Colonel, Washington gives insight into her future plans, fondest memories and favorite things.
Q: What is your favorite sport other than basketball?
A: Track and field. I played very competitively in high school.
Q: What track and field events did you compete in?
A: I did long jump, triple jump, 4 x 400 meter relay and the 4 x 200 meter relay. My sophomore year of high school, our 4 x 400 meter relay team won state.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: My dream job is to be the CEO of a computer company.
Q: What is your favorite quote of all time and why?
A: “Impossible is nothing,” by Nike.
Q: What is the most played song on your iPod?
A: “Shot for Me,” by Drake.
Q: Do you have any pre-game rituals?
A: Not really, I just get dressed and then go out and shoot; nothing special.
Q: What is your favorite thing about being a Colonel?
A: My favorite thing about being a Colonel is that I get to compete every game; I enjoy that.
Q: If you could eat dinner with any two people, dead or alive, who would they be?
A: I would have dinner with Michael Jordan and Martin Lawrence because he is funny.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
A: I see myself having a family with a nice successful job and a big house.
Q: What is one thing you could not live without?
A: I couldn’t live without my family.
Q: Do you want to play basketball after your finish college?
A: If I get the opportunity I will, but nothing’s set in stone yet.
Q: If you had the chance to go back in time for 24 hours, where and when would you go?
A: I would go back to my senior year of high school when I made the game-winning shot.
