The Student Programming Association and KNSU are putting on Edgefest today for the first time in four years.”We decided to put Edgefest on again because it was a positive promotion for KNSU,” Furl Harrison, music director for KNSU, said. “We also wanted to work with the SPA to get more of a music scene. We thought Nicholls students would want a concert to return to campus.”
Edgefest will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the tailgating area of the football stadium. This event will be free to all students. Food will be available for students, and Sodexho will be selling concessions.
“We’re hoping for good weather and a good turnout,” Kristen Turnage, SPA publicity director, said.
Edgefest was originally supposed to be a battle of the bands, but instead turned into more of a showcase for the bands.
“I think Edgefest will be fun,” Callie Cazenave, freshman from Katy, said. “I like rock music, and it will be the first University-sponsored event I will go to.”
The four bands performing are Nee Deep from 2 p.m. to 3p.m., Meriwether from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Ellipsis from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and In Response To Stars from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. According to Turnage, all of these bands have a very large local following. Between each set a DJ will play music.
The bands were chosen by the KNSU staff which voted on the bands they thought were good enough to play in Edgefest. They listened to demos mailed in by the band members and chose bands that had an alternative sound.
“I think it will be a good way for students to socialize,” Maria Lorenti, freshman from Marrero, said.
The bands participating at Edgefest have members that are students at Nicholls.
“The more students who show up the more likely it is that we have another concert,” Turnage said.
