Nicholls renovated Babington Hall over the summer just in time for the start of the fall semester.According to Lisa Grubbs, director of residence life, the changes were minor yet made a world of difference. She said the building was given “a good cleanup.”
The rooms and stairwells were painted, doors were replaced, the kitchen was given a more updated look and new furniture was added. Grubbs believes the new furniture gives the building an overall homier and more contemporary look. She said the demand for on-campus housing is as high as ever.
Before the renovations, one of the concerns of residents with the building was its “outdated” look. Marquia Whitehead, mass communication junior from Franklin, said the building was in an overall good condition when she lived there before. She felt safe as rules were “strictly enforced.” No matter the condition, Whitehead said she enjoyed her time as a resident in Babington.
“I believe the heater used to blow cold air… but we used to have a lot of fun activities in the dorm.”
Although Whitehead enjoyed many great experiences in the hall, she said many things broke and it took the University awhile to make repairs. Kristen Holland, freshman from Laplace, disagreed.
“Now, when things break, they are really quick on fixing it,” Holland said.
Madison Smith, freshman from Laplace, said her only complaint is the slight humidity.
Current residents expressed appreciation for the renovations of the residence hall.
“From what I see the rooms and stuff are really nice. They did a really good job painting,” Holland said.
