Rockstar in a box! Well, minus the large amount of wealth, women and long crazy nights, but who’s to judge? Being a rock god isn’t hard now, thanks to Activision’s series of Guitar Hero games, which has let avid music fans become their own Anthony Kiedis, Brandon Boyd or Kurt Cobain. Well, hopefully, not Cobain.
Throughout the series, Guitar Hero has made some bands’ most legendary songs playable to the average Joe. Some of these songs include: “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” by Joann Jett, “Stellar” by Incubus, “Ziggy Stardust” by David Bowie and “Heart Shaped Box” by Nirvana.
One thing Guitar Hero does well is diversifying its songs by a variation of time periods. There is everything from Jimi Hendrix and Ozzy Osbourne to The Killers and Rage Against the Machine.
The fact that you can play with hard-core rockers like Axel Steel or The Grim Ripper is pretty cool, too. The question I know everyone wants to know is: what songs will be on the next edition of Guitar Hero? I personally would like to see some Modest Mouse, maybe “Float On” or “The World at Large,” as well as a complex face-melter from Tool or Deftones such as “The Pot,” “My Own Summer” or “Change.” I would also like to see Carlos Santana as one of the “bosses” to play against.
Whether you’re home alone with a mock-guitar in hand (when you probably should be studying) or with a bunch of friends having a Guitar Hero night, this is one game that will not leave you hanging. Maybe if you’re really lucky, and really good, you might even end up having one of those long crazy nights, but don’t count on it!
