A former Nicholls State University police officer was arrested and charged with raping a man earlier this month. Thibodaux Police detective Ricky Ross arrested Raymond Malbrough, 62, on Aug. 5 at his Thibodaux home for one count of aggravated rape. Malbrough was booked at the Thibodaux Police Department and later transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, where he will await a $50,000 bail bond.
Malbrough served as a campus police officer from Jan. 1, 1978 to Jan. 16, 2004 and left with the rank of sergeant.
Craig Jaccuzzo, director of University police, said he never personally worked with Malbrough.
Renee Piper, director of University relations, said Nicholls has no official comment on the arrest, as Malbrough had not worked for the school in more than five years.
Under Louisiana law, aggravated rape carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of parole.
