Walt Disney World is looking to recruit a few of Nicholls’ students for an internship opportunity in Orlando, Florida. Any student who is 18 years of age and is attending college can apply online for the opportunity.
Students are required to go to a presentation and interview.
This year, presentations will be held at the University of New Orleans on October 4th and Loyola University on October 8th.
Theresa Torres, a Nicholls student and Disney representative was recruited for this program last fall.
“Last semester, we doubled the number of people who went to Walt Disney,” Torres said.
Eight students are at Disney World, participating in the program. “They will not be back until the beginning of January,” Torres said.
Another three students went to Disney World this summer, but are back at Nicholls.
“Over 200 students attend the presentation,” Torres said.
“I am unsure of the number of students who actually get accepted.”
Torres said the recruiters are looking for people with good people skills.
There are over 3,000 students at Disney World this fall from various schools nationwide.
Advantages of working at Disney World include free access to the park and a salary.
Transportation to and from work is also provided for students.
Students have to pay for their own transportation to Disney World and also bring money for their deposit, which costs $60.
All students are housed together at a complex with 2-8 people to a room.
The rent comes straight from the student’s pay check. Students do not get paid the first two weeks, but after that, they are paid weekly.
“Students should bring about $250 with them to get their necessities,” Torres said.
There is also Disney University, which offers 7 management courses. Although the University does not offer credit for the courses, it is recommended that the students enroll in a class.
“You learn how to interact with guests and there is extensive training about how to deal with people,” Torres said.
“Having Disney on your resume is a powerful tool.”
