The Colonels men’s tennis team dropped two Southland Conference matches falling 5-2 to Lamar and 6-0 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Beaumont. The men are 12-7 overall.
In the match versus Lamar, the Colonels took the doubles point, taking two of three from the Cardinals. At number one seed, Radu Ionescu and Vlad Popa defeated Filip Kanczula and Macig Boqusz, 8-5. Eric Fisher and Phenyo Matong claimed an 8-5 win over Diego Snyder and Allan Gomes in the second match. In the third match, Sami Mouline and Chris Hernandez fell 8-3 to Mario Janjic and David Wanja.
In the singles matches the Colonels managed to win only one. Matong won the No. 4 match 6-3, 6-7 (9), 6-1 over Snyder for the only singles point of the day. At the first seed, Ionescu fell 6-2, 6-1 to Kanczula, while Fisher was defeated 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 by Boqusz at the second match. Popa dropped the third match 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-3 to Janjic and Rohan Shetty fell 6-4, 6-2 to Gomes in the fifth match. At the sixth seed Alex Gasca-Silav lost 6-3, 6-4 to Andres Medina.
On Monday against the Islanders, the Colonels did not play any of the three doubles matches, but A&M-Corpus Christi swept the singles matches to claim the win.
In number one singles, Ionescu fell 6-3, 7-5 to Mikhail Pavlov, and Fisher was defeated 6-2, 6-3 by Laurent Montoisy at second match. Popa dropped the number three match 6-2, 7-5 to Dmitry Novikov.
In the number four spot, Matong fell 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 to Jaume Farras, while Shetty was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Ian Cingel at No. 5. In the number six seed, Gasca-Silav fell 6-4, 6-1 to James Langford.
