Mike Naquin, who has been promoted to assistant vice president of business affairs, is also the controller at Nicholls State University. In addition, he is the fire chief for the city of Thibodaux. Although the added responsibilities for Naquin means more work in the office, he said he manages. Naquin was born and raised in Thibodaux. He graduated from Nicholls with a bachelor’s in accounting in 1987. He later became a certified accountant in 1978.
In 1979, Naquin was employed by the University where he worked in the controller’s office. Since then, he has been working his way up to assistant Vice President.
“I spend my time wisely,” Naquin said. Some duties of Naquin are keeping track of what is going on in the University, getting statistical reports about the University, tending to financial matters, paying bills, issuing paychecks, and collecting fees.
Naquin makes trips to Baton Rouge once in a while to attend meetings on behalf of the University.
Naquin’s vision for the University is to continue having good audits. The audits are issued every two years. There were no audit findings in the ’98 and ’00 reports.
“I hope we continue getting good reports, Naquin said.
“The clean audits show the wonderful job the staff is doing. People do the best possible job,” he replied.
Naquin said he is very dedicated to his job, and although, at times, it may be time consuming, he sets aside time for work so he can meet deadlines. “I will make sure the job gets done or is carried out,” Naquin said.
Naquin makes the best of the time he gets to spend with his wife and daughter.
When Naquin started out, he worked in the controller’s office where there were only 11 employees. Also, the budget was just around $12.5 million . Now, the budget is about $39.25 million and there are about 20 employees working in the controller’s office.
“The University has grown significantly since I’ve been working here,” Naquin said.
“Everything now is computerized,” said Naquin.
Naquin spends most of his time in his office.
“I believe that my good job, dedication, and loyalty was the base for my promotion,” said Naquin.
Naquin thanks Dr. Ayo and Lionel Naquin for their confidence in him and for the promotion.
Lionel Naquin, Mike Naquin’s boss, said Mike Naquin has been working for the university for 22.5 years. He said they have been thinking about promoting Mike Naquin for the last couple of years and it finally happened this year. Lionel Naquin said Mike Naquin earned the promotion.
“He is the most deserving for the job,” Lionel Naquin said.
Lionel Naquin said that he is looking forward to working with Mike Naquin.
