Two students were recognized as Mr. and Ms. Nicholls at Crawfish Day last week.Nicholls students voted Cody Blanchard and Anna Waguespack to represent the University.
Mr. and Ms. Nicholls nominees must have at least a 2.5 grade point average and must be active in student organizations. Finalists for the honor were selected by a committee of students, faculty and staff and chosen through popular vote by Nicholls students.
“I was very excited,” Blanchard said. “It’s a great honor to be selected as Mr. Nicholls.”
Blanchard said he plans to graduate in May with a degree in marketing.
“I’m looking at several marketing firms in New Orleans where I’m hoping to get a job,” Blanchard said. “Eventually I would love to branch out on my own,”
Blanchard is vice president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and director of public relations for the Student Government Association. He is a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon, the marketing fraternity on campus, and Order of Omega, the Greek honor society. Blanchard serves as the marketing intern for the marketing department in auxiliary services.
“My best memory of Nicholls would have to be the day I got a bid to SAE, my fraternity,” Blanchard said. “It’s lead me to so many places on this campus.”
In previous semesters, Blanchard was an orientation leader, a section editor and editor and chief for the yearbook. He served as philanthropy chair for SAE and as a senator for SGA.
“I think I made an impression on the campus through all the things I’ve taken on,” Blanchard said.
Waguespack, a nursing senior, said she plans to graduate with honors in the summer.
“I would love to become a pediatric nurse,” Waguespack said. “I will also probably go back to school in the future to become a nurse practioner or CRNA.”
Waguespack is a member of Tri Sigma Sorority, Student Programming Association, Circle K, National Association of Student Nurses and Order of Omega. She has served as a member of SGA, Alpha Lambda Delta national honor society and others.
“I was surprised,” Waguespack said. “I’m actually still a little speechless when people tell me congratulations. I have to keep telling myself that it really did happen!”
Waguespack said being chosen as Ms. Nicholls is one of her best memories of Nicholls.
“I definitely plan on coming back to visit as often as I can to cheer on the Colonels,” Waguespack said.
