The Student Government Association tabled two motions totaling $4,200 in last night’s meeting, and allocated $150 to purchase wet wipes intended for distribution today at the stadium for Crawfish Day.The first was for the allocation of $1,000 to Campus Recreation to contribute to the construction of a walking trail being built by the city of Thibodaux.
The second, motioned by Danielle Walker, arts and sciences senator, called for the purchase of four computers for the executive offices at $800 each, totaling $3,200.
“These computers will replace broken computers currently in the office,” the motion read.
With the motion tabled last week calling for $2,900 for the hiring of a legal adviser the SGA postponed, the amount of money in motions to be voted on next week is at least $7,100.
However, the funds for the legal adviser are derived from a self-assessed student fee separate from the SGA fee.
Also tabled was a motion calling for the adding of the Code of Ethics to rules and procedures.
The motion for wet wipes was the only one that passed.
“Last year, I helped pass out wet wipes, and I noticed we had passed them all out by 2:30,” Lisa Pierce, judicial board member, said.
“So, this year, my suggestion was that maybe you leave some of the bottles of wet wipes unopened underneath the tables, and, around 2:30 or 3:00 when the next shift of students comes in, put some out for them.”
Vice president Brent Callais said next Wednesday’s meeting, the last of this semester, will be a very long one.
In other business, Nicole Perero, director of students’ rights and grievances, said she talked to Sabrina Laurent, director of residential services, about complaints about elevators in the residence halls, specifically in Ellender.
“Actually, they are going to completely change that elevator,” Perero said.
Ben Landry, director of public relations, spoke of the available executive board positions.
“The biggest thing I’m trying to publicize right now is the position openings for director of public relations, director of students’ rights and grievances and treasurer,” Landry said.
