The Lady Colonels volleyball team picked up its second straight conference win of the season by defeating the Southeastern Lions 3-1 Friday night in Stopher Gym. “This was a huge win for our team tonight,” head coach Chris Laird said. “Our team fought hard in the fourth set and we were able to get the win.”
Nicholls (8-11, 2-1 SLC) fell to the Lions (6-6, 0-3 SLC) in the opening set 26-30.
After losing the first set, the Lady Colonels came back to win the second and third sets 30-19 and 30-27.
Going into the fourth set, Nicholls appeared to be in control; however, the Lions jumped on top quickly with a 15-4 lead. Down by 11, the Lady Colonels came back with a 19-8 rally to tie the game 23-23 after freshman defensive specialist Elise King made an ace.
Nicholls and Southeastern exchanged points until sophomore setter Amy Whitehead scored four straight serve points to make the score 29-26. A Lions player committed an error on the final serve to give Nicholls the go-ahead win.
The Lady Colonels host the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. in Stopher Gym.
