Soon, all divisions of union services will shift from the office of student affairs to the office of business affairs, and will be housed together.”All my units will finally be housed together. When health services moves to the [Betsy Cheramie Ayo Hall], we’re having that space renovated for us all to go together,” Brenda Haskins, director of union services and facilities, said.
With the promotion of Dr. Eugene Dial from dean of student life to vice president for student affairs set to take effect in the summer, Haskins, wife to Dial, can no longer report to her husband.
“I’ll have to change divisions. I cannot report to him. I’ll probably be moved to business affairs, I’ve already been told. So, I will just report to a new vice president,” Haskins said.
She said the role of union services will not be affected by the change.
“We won’t lose our focus. What makes us somewhat different than the rest of the business affairs group is that we are housed here, we are in the middle of the students and that’s our job. That job will not change, whether we are called student affairs or business affairs,” she said.
“If you go to a lot of [other] universities, my operations often report to business affairs.”
Haskins has plans for her current office space.
“I think for this space here I’m going to offer it to Sodexho-Marriott because they don’t have enough offices for all their management. I can’t think of anybody else who would need access to both sides of the building,” she said.
“There would always be a security issue if somebody else was in here because the exit doors go right into the cafeteria.”
Haskins said a new position – contracted services and ID card operations – reports to her.
She joked that her husband’s promotion would not completely diminish his impression on her office.
“Those student affairs people, they’re not going to let me forget who I am. I know that vice president will still have influence here,” she said.
