A female student was the victim of an attempted rape and kidnapping Tuesday. According to a statement issued by the student, she accepted a ride from New Orleans to Thibodaux by a male non-student with whom she was acquainted.
Instead of taking her to the campus, the man took her somewhere not far from campus.
Cathy Landry of University Police said the student escaped once, but the man caught her. She escaped a second time successfully.
According to her report, the student had to walk back to her residence hall in the nude. A friend called University Police, who in turn notified the Thibodaux Police Department.
Dr. Eugene Dial, dean of student life, could not be reached for comment, but Landry said he wants students to be aware of this crime and of their surroundings.
She said even though the student knew her attacker, students need to be aware that this does happen.
