Junior Offensive lineman Spencer Langthorn has fought through a lot during his career as a Colonel. After receiving a redshirt during his freshman year, the Kingwood Texas native played in all nine games the next year. After fighting off a pre-season injury last year, Langthorn played in eight games before sustaining a season-ending injury against McNeese State.
With the kickoff of the 2010 season quickly approaching, Langthorn took some time after last Saturday’s scrimmage to answer a few question.
Q: How has the pre-season gone so far?
A: We are trying to work out all the little kinks in our new offense to make sure we’re ready for San Diego State.
Q: What are your expectations for the upcoming season?
A: The expectation is not to go 0 and 10 or 0 and 11. It’s just to win every game and not trying to skip a beat. We are trying to go from where we left out.
Q: You have had quite a few injuries in your career as a Colonel. How many have you had and what are they?
A: Four. I blew out my ACL, broke my thumb and broke my wrist twice.
Q: What is the biggest difference between this year and last year?
A: We are a lot more of a team this year and it’s a lot more fun to play. Everyone is looking forward to the season and we are ready to get going.
Q: How has the adjustment to pass blocking gone in the new offensive system?
A: There is a lot more technique involved. You don’t just go out and fight; it’s more technique and how you position. It’s a big challenge for us (offensive line) and we are taking it head on.
Q: Why do you play offensive line?
A: I ate too much as a kid.
Q: What is the best thing about road trips?
A: The best part about road trips is the food.
Q: What has been your most embarrassing moment here at Nicholls?
A: Last year against Jacksonville State, I crossed my feet and got planted and the guy ran right over me. There is a picture of it too, so that makes it a little more embarrassing.
Q: What do you like to do in the little free time you have away from football?
A: I like to sleep, watch television and hang out with friends.
Q: What are your plans for after graduation?
A: I’m going to join a sales team back in Houston.
