The Lady Colonel softball team swept a doubleheader from Centenary College Wednesday night 11-9 in non-conference action at the Lady Colonel Diamond. The offensive explosion between the two teams began in the first inning, when the Ladies jumped on Nicholls with a 3-0 lead.
The Lady Colonels then went to put up consecutive innings of two, four, and five runs.
In the second inning, Lady Colonel second baseman, Kyna Boyer, doubled to the left center gap, driving in a run.
Boyer struck again in the third inning with another double, this one clearing the Centenary center fielder’s head to advance Nicole Stewart to third. Stewart would later score on a single from third baseman Shauna Emola.
“We had Kyna square around in the Southwest Texas game so she could get in the habit of seeing good pitches,” Lady Colonel coach Pattie Holthaus said. “Tonight we let her swing away and she came through with some clutch hits.”
Stewart also had a double in the contest as the Lady Colonels managed to post 11 hits.
With the Lady Colonels up 11-3 heading into the fifth, Centenary’s bats came alive as the Ladies scored a run in that inning, four in the sixth inning, and one in the top of the seventh to draw within two.
