Nicholls sprinters placed in several events at the All Comers Invitational in Houston this past weekend and head confidently into the Southland Conference Championship in Houston Feb. 20.Senior Leshea Jenkins finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 60.23 seconds.
Closely following Jenkins was freshman Jonae McCalister with a time of 61.79 seconds.
Sophomore Kadi Whisnant finished first in the 800-meter run with a posted time of 2:29.73.
Freshman sprinter Samantha Calhoun placed third in the 60-meter dash with a posted time of 7.81 seconds. Calhoun has improved her personal best time in each meet she has competed in.
Junior Lauren Jones placed seventh in the mile run with a new personal best of 5:21.16.
“I think it was a good tune-up for us before we compete at the conference meet,” head coach Scott Williamson said. “Some of our girls ran really strong and I think they should do well at the SLC Championships in a couple of weeks.”
Also competing in the invitational were juniors Jarina Guilbeau, Rahjanaye Bailey and Sabrina Henkes, sophomores Kadi Whisnant and senior Marion Chebet.
Next for the Colonels will be the Southland Conference Championships in Houston on Feb. 20.
