The Nicholls State 2007-2008 yearbooks arrived this week and the staff at La Pirogue immediately began distributing the books at a table set up in the Student Union.Cody Blanchard, editor of the La Pirogue, said the yearbooks arrived late this year due to delays getting it completed and printed on time. The fall semester was tumultuous due to hurricanes Gustav, Ike and a fire that broke out in the Student Publications building in August.
“We apologize for the lateness of the yearbooks,” Blanchard said. “We believe we’ve done a sufficient job considering our limited resources and the restraints we’ve faced this school year.”
Blanchard said steps are being taken to insure that future publications would arrive as scheduled. Last year, La Pirogue used Multimedia Technologies in Mississippi that contracted to a company in China. This year La Pirogue will use Taylor Publishing of Dallas.
La Pirogue has a four-person staff working throughout the school year collecting names, information and pictures from over 6,000 students, 100 or more organizations and 20 different athletic teams, spirit groups and events.
“It’s impossible not to have some mistakes each year,” Blanchard said. “Many people still complimented this yearbook though.”
The deadline to have a group or organization registered for the next yearbook is March 6, and to have a picture taken is March 20. Students can register their group or organization online through La Pirogue’s website at www.nicholls.edu/la_pirogue or by filling out a form at the Student Publications office on Ardoyne Drive between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
