The Nicholls University Bookstore is displaying laptops that are available as a convenience to students.Angelle Caillouet, bookstore manager, said that Barnes and Noble has a similar program going on in a majority of their stores.
“My regional manager asked who would like to be a part of it, and I raised my hand,” Caillouet said. “We know that every student probably needs a laptop at this point in their lives.”
The laptops have been on display since the beginning of August 2010. Currently, the bookstore’s brand name options include Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Acer. The bookstore has two Dell laptops on display, including the Inspiron Mini. Students can order a Dell Inspiron Mini, Inspiron, or Studio laptop.
Doris Savoie, bookstore employee, said there are also a variety of HP laptops as well as an Acer model for students to choose from. Savoie said a significant amount of parents and students have asked about the laptops during orientation over the summer and throughout the fall semester.
“We think this is an excellent opportunity to assist students,” Caillouet said.
Students can pay with either cash or credit card.
“We give them the price, and they fill out an order form,” Caillouet said.
The bookstore orders the requested laptop for no additional fee. When the laptop arrives at the bookstore, the student is notified and may pick it up.
Refunds can be issued for defective merchandise with the original receipt within 14 days of the purchase date.
