After seeing substantial playing time in her freshman season, sophomore volleyball player Jasmine Harris continues to add to her record in the 2010 year.The Placentia, Calif. native played all 32 matches and 120 of 123 sets during her freshman season. Harris led the team in block solos, block assists, total blocks and blocks per set in the 2009 season. Harris set her career high in total blocks in a 3-0 win at Prairie View A&M with nine blocks in September 2009. Harris also set her career high in solo blocks with two against Rice in August 2009 and set her career high in kills with 12 against Jackson State in October 2009.
Harris took some time before practice to talk about volleyball.
Q: What are the things you miss about California?
A: I definitely miss the beach and the weather.
Q: What are some of the differences between last year’s team and this year’s?
A: This year’s team is very young. We had a lot more seniors last year, and this year has more freshmen and sophomores.
Q: Do you have any superstitions or rituals before a game?
A: I’m not superstitious at all. I kind of just go with every game.
Q: What are some of your favorite places you’ve played and why?
A: My favorite place that I’ve played at is Texas State because the arena was huge. It brought in a big crowd and it was a lot of fun.
Q: What was your most embarrassing moment on the court?
A: I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten hit in the face with the ball.
Q: How does it feel to have a substantial amount of playing time as a sophomore in college?
A: It feels good. I like it because there is pressure, but it is still good to play at any level.
Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?
A: I want to get my master’s, so I will still be in school.
Q: What is your major?
A: Psychology.
Q: In your opinion, what has been your biggest win and why?
A: Our biggest win this year was Lamar.
Q: What are some of the things you do when you are not playing volleyball?
A: I love to sleep. I am always trying to catch up on my sleep when I’m not at practice or in class.
