This week’s band is from Hertfordshire, England and came together in 2003. They released their first album titled “Take to the Skies” and it reached No. 4 on the Official UK Album Chart, selling 28,000 copies in the first week. This week’s review is on Enter Shikari’s newest album “Common Dreads.”The album’s opening track, “Common Dreads,” is basically a speech given by a voice that sounds strikingly similar to Darth Vader. After the phrase “We must unite,” is said in about 15 different languages, the lead vocalist, Roughton “Rou” Reynolds, comes in with, “Here tonight I clocked a thousand heads. Here to unite through common dreads.” This sends the album into the most epic synth intro to a song that I have ever heard.
Being a keyboardist in a band, I honestly cannot describe how impressed I am with the programming job done on this album. The band uses some of the sickest, fastest and catchiest synth riffs ever created.
While every song on the album is great, the highlights of the album are “Solidarity,” “Juggernauts,” “Zzzonked,” “No Sleep Tonight,” and “The Jester.”
Though this album was released in 2009, the only reason I waited this long to review it is because I wanted to wait until I could see this band live. I attended my first Enter Shikari show on Oct. 3, and let me just say that it was the BEST live show that I have ever been to. The energy of both the band and the crowd was amazing! I crowd surfed at least eight times.
Enter Shikari’s newest album, “Common Dreads,” earns a five out of five and is personally one of my favorite albums ever made. Enter Shikari is currently on tour with Haste the Day and Sleeping With Sirens. You can check out their music and tour dates at www.myspace.com/entershikari and their newest album, “Common Dreads,” available on iTunes. If you have not yet purchased or heard this album, I STRONGLY suggest looking into it!
