Every year, senior Colonel athletes get their final opportunity to play at the collegiate level. This season the Colonel Volleyball team will lose senior Elise King. The New Orleans native has seen substantial playing time during her career at Nicholls.As a freshman she appeared in 27 matches. During her sophomore year, she finished second on the team with 242 digs while playing in 21 of 27 matches. Last season, she played in 23 matches, recorded 38 kills and posted a season high eight kills at South Alabama.
This season, under first year head coach TeAna Tramel, the Colonels find themselves with a record of 10-7 and currently rank third in the Southland Conference Volleyball East Division. Elise had a few minutes after practice to answer some questions about this season and her future plans.
Q: How do you prepare for games?
A: We definitely do a lot of scouting and going over the game plan, along with making sure you’re sticking to the game plan. We make sure the game plan is in your head, so that you can do what you need to do to win.
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals?
A: I don’t have any rituals, except every day be ready to go and work hard.
Q: Do you prepare differently for conference games compared to non-conference?
A: I don’t take conference games any different than other games; every game you have to go out and do your best
Q: What do you do to pass time on long road trips?
A: I sleep a lot. I might study, but I’m not a study on the road person. The bus puts me to sleep.
Q: Do you enjoy road trips or home games more? Why?
A:I enjoy home games more; my parents are always here and I get to sleep in my own bed.
Q: What are three things you cannot live without?
A: I can’t live without my phone, food and water.
Q: Who is your role model or who do you look up too?
A: My mom. She does everything; she’s like Superwoman, so I want to be like her.
Q: Do you have any nicknames?
A: I have quite a few, most of the time they call me Elise but they also call me Lee.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: My favorite food is steak from Outback.
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: After graduation, I plan on going to Xavier for pharmacy school.
Q: What do you do away from Volleyball?
A: Study. I’m the nerd of the team.
Q: What is one of your most embarrassing moments?
A: I ran into a pole and lost my two front teeth when I was little.
