Nicholls alumnus and photojournalist Misty McElroy has joined the office of University Relations and will serve as the new campus photojournalist. “Being a full-time photojournalist is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time now,” McElroy said. “When the position opened up, I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to do what I love as a way of making my living-especially so close to home.”
McElroy’s duties will include photographing events and portraits for the campus Web site, brochures, and magazines, maintaining a searchable photo archive for easy accessibility and working with campus offices and departments in photographic respects.
“We are quite fortunate to have a professional of McElroy’s talent and experience on the Nicholls team,” Renee Piper, director of University relations, said. “Her expertise and artistry will be evident for all to see, and I know the campus community will be pleased.”
McElroy hopes to showcase the best of what Nicholls has to offer by providing viewers with great storytelling images through her knowledge and skill as a photojournalist.
“I want to fine-tune my photographic skills and workflow, while I attend to the needs of the University,” McElroy said. “I’d like to see my documentation of the University offer a broader and more positive perspective of life here at Nicholls. If I can help get students excited about attending Nicholls, then I will be happy with the job I am doing.”
McElroy graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in general studies, and lives with her 6-year-old daughter Taylor. McElroy’s photography has appeared in USA Today, the New York Post, Prep Sports Online, the Houma Courier and the Daily Comet-featuring news events, sporting events, weddings and portraits.
