With losses this past week to both Lamar and McNeese State, the Lady Colonels fall to an overall record of 2-15. The Lady Colonels have loss 13 straight games since their initial two victories over the Southern Jaguars and Texas Southern. The Lady Colonels only have one game remaining. They will host rival Southeastern Sunday at 1 p.m. in an attempt to acquire their first and only conference victory.
Next year, the Lady Colonels hope to have 23 returning players. The team’s lone senior, Katherine Peters, is the only player expected not to return.
Freshman defender Michaela Gaudin said she believes in her team’s ability to be competitive next season.
“Everyone on our team is very skilled,” said Gaudin. “We have great fitness and can outrun any team we play.”
The Lady Colonels are currently comprised of 12 returning players and 12 newcomers.
“We are such a young team.” Gaudin said. “We have the individual talents, but we need to play better together as a unit. One specific thing we need to improve on is controlling the movement of the ball out from the backfield and up to the offense.”
Now nearing the end of the season, Gaudin feels as though she has made great strides as a player.
“Coach [Cindy] Piper told me she saw a night and day difference in my performance over the season,” said Gaudin. “Personally, I feel as though I’m more confident and am more adapted to competing at a higher level.
