Fred Hunter, 6’5 freshman guard from Denton, Texas, is having a tremendous start to the Colonel basketball season. He averages 11.9 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game. Hunter began his collegiate career as the only freshman starter. Hunter recorded his career high, scoring 27 points against Southern University of New Orleans.
Q. I started in my first ever collegiate game and was nervous. How did you feel starting in your first game?
A. “I was nervous and did not know what to expect. As the game went along I started to feel more at ease.”
Q. What is the adjustment to collegiate basketball versus high school?
A. “The game is a whole lot faster. You cannot take a play off.”
Q. What is your motivation on the court?
A. “Helping my team win and playing as hard as possible. I especially love playing at home cause the home crowd gets involved and I want to keep them satisfied.”
Q. What do you attribute the team’s early success this season to?
A. “We work hard as a team and buy into our coaches’ system.”
Q. Who do you compare your game to?
A. “On a good night, I compare my game to LeBron James. On a bad night, I compare my game to Michael Jordan.”
Q. What do you do to prepare for a game?
A. “I listen to Lil’ Wayne on my iPod and just put it on shuffle.”
Q. What are your collegiate goals in athletics?
A. “I just want to do whatever it takes to continue to help my team win games.”
Q. What do you want to be after college?
A. “I would love to be a basketball coach.”
Q. How did it feel going into the Northwestern State game and winning the conference opener?
A. “It felt great. It was our conference opener and we were able as a team to pull out a victory and get conference play started on the right track.”
Q. What is your strongest attribute on the court?
A. “I believe my ability to score can help my team put points on the board.”
Q. What is the ultimate goal of the team?
A. “Of course the ultimate goal of the team is winning conference.
