Nicholls State University will welcome more international students after recent agreements with several different countries promoting student and faculty exchanges and collaborative research. University President Stephen Hulbert met with Sung-Jin Kim, dean of the College of International Studies at Hallym University in Chuncheon, South Korea this month to sign an inter-institutional exchange agreement that will promote friendly relations and academic cooperation between the two universities.
According to Hulbert, this is the first of a series of partnerships between Nicholls and international institutions.
“We anticipate further agreements with institutions in Asia, as well as institutions in South America in the near future,” Hulbert said.
The agreement, signed on Jan. 6, will improve intercultural understanding and enhance educational opportunities at Nicholls.
The partnership will offer Hallym students access to the Nicholls College of Business Administration’s master of business administration program.
The University of Louisiana System recently made agreements to promote opportunities between the UL’s eight universities and other international universities.
In September, the UL System formed an agreement with The Ple Universitaire Léonard de Vinci in Paris; and then again in October with the Republic of Kazakhstan’s Caspian State University of Technology and Engineering.
Randy Moffett, UL System president, said while the former Soviet republic develops its economy, there will be a growing need for professionals in business, engineering, education and health care.
“Kazakhstan is looking to our universities to help prepare the workers it needs to propel its economy forward,” Moffett said. “We consider it an honor to share our expertise with them.
