It’s been a while since a great new alternative band has come around. We’ve all heard of The Killers, The Strokes and The Bravery, but every now and then it’s nice to add another talent to our repertoires of musical goodness. This week’s review is on the Neon Trees and their debut album, “Habits.”The band combines standard rock with a synthesizer to make an awesome sound with an 80s pop-rock feel to it.
The three highlights of the album are “1983”, “Girls and Boys in School” and “Animals.” All three have a heavy synth-based sound to them that sets them apart from the others on the album.
The vocals are very good with placement and sound but not very original in lyrics. While it is true that love makes the world go ’round, I don’t need to hear about it in every song I listen to.
All in all, the album is a success of a debut album. Catchy guitar and synthesizer riffs along with well-performed vocals gives “Habits” a well-earned 3.5 out of 5. Check out Neon Trees on myspace.com/neontrees and the album “Habits” now on iTunes.
