A Schriever man was placed under arrest Friday, Aug. 27, and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center for booking on the charge of possession of marijuana. He was also cited for playing loud music and driving without a license. Robert Michael Day Jr., 27, was first warned by University Police Officer Raymond Ledet, who was on bicycle patrol on Madewood Drive, to pull over because of his loud music. According to police, Day ignored the warning.
University Police Sergeant Mary Lou Brady was able to stop the vehicle on LA Highway 1. Brady noticed a plastic bag containing marijuana in the car as she approached it.
According to a press release issued by the University Police, Day informed Brady that he wanted to cooperate and directed her to two additional bags of marijuana next to the driver’s seat as well as “a blunt that he had just rolled and placed in the ashtray.” When asked what he was doing on campus, Day said he was lost. Whether Day bought or sold the substance on campus is still under investigation.
“I believe this arrest was accomplished by the efforts of good police work,” Chief Craig Jacuzzo said. “Our officers worked together to arrest a man who was neither part of our student body nor visiting a student on our campus. That illustrates that our officers are doing everything they can to make this University a drug free environment and a safe place to live and learn.
