The Baptist Collegiate Ministry wants to welcome students to visit and enjoy a free lunch provided by local churches every Thursday until Thanksgiving break. Lunches are served between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and are provided by different local Baptist churches, Tim Lefleur, director of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry, said.
“It’s our way to get to know new people,” Lefleur said.
Students are encouraged to drop in and enjoy the atmosphere the ministry provides Lefleur said.
“Students can come to eat and hang out as long as they like,” Lefleur said.
According to Lefleur, the ministry also has devotion, announcements are provided and prayer.
The surroundings include Christian music, videos and perhaps a student singing.
“It is designed for people during their break to eat and get a form of a positive community atmosphere,” Lefleur said.
Students involved with the Baptist Collegiate Ministry pass out bookmarks and remind students of the free lunches provided, according to Lefleur.
The ministry is also providing a 9:15 a.m. breakfast on Sundays, followed by a ride with fellow students to the First Baptist Church or the Universal Baptist Church in Thibodaux, Lefleur said.
The Baptist Collegiate Ministry was first established on campus in 1975, and has always provided students with free lunches on Thursdays, according to Lefleur.
