MONROE – Senior Theunette Van der Walt fired a five-over par 77 during the final round of the ULM Fred Marx Invitational to finish tied for 23rd place with a 237 (78-84-74). The Lady Colonels, who shot back-to-back rounds of 325 and 323 during the first round, carded a final round of 319 to finish 10th overall out of the 11-team field. Nicholls finished with a 967 (325-323-319) for the 54-hole event.
The ULM Fred Marx Invitational was held at par 72, 5,895 yard Bayou Desiard Country Club.
Samford University, who led by 12 shots after the first round, finished the day with a 296 to claim the overall team championship.
Central Arkansas finished in second with a 917, followed by Jacksonville State (918), Sam Houston State (927), McNeese State (933), Louisiana-Monroe (941), South Alabama (944), Houston Baptist University (949), Arkansas State University (952), Nicholls (967) and Centenary College (977) round out the field of 11.
Other Nicholls golfers included freshman Sofia Joensson (81-80-81/242 – T39), freshman Brooke Braun (81-83-83/247- T48), senior Emiley Patton (87-82-78/247 – T48), freshman Natalie McLane (81-83-85/249 – 51st) and. Sophomore Elyse Kinley finished tied for 44th after shooting a 244 (78-79-87) as an individualist.
The Lady Colonels will take a three-week break before hosting the L.D.R. Investments/Lady Colonel Collegiate at The Bridges Golf Club in Bay St. Louis, Miss., on Oct. 19-21.
