Fewer students are attending summer school as compared to last year; however, students are enrolled for more credit hours. According to the Office of Assessment and Institutional Research, there were 2,177 students enrolled in summer school as of the eighth day of the full summer term. Last summer, 2,205 students were enrolled in summer school courses by the seventh class day. The enrollment numbers do not include students enrolled in summer intersession or mini-term B.
This summer is the first time students are able to take up to 15 hours. Previously, students could take a maximum of 12 hours during the summer.
The additional three credit hours are possible with the modified summer school schedule implemented by the University for the first time this year. The program allows for students to enroll in courses for summer intersession, full-term, mini-term A and mini-term B.
The full-term began June 5 and the last day of classes is July 30. Mini-term A also began June 5 and will conclude June 30. Mini-term B will begin July 7 and end July 30.
There are 1,188 students enrolled in the full summer term. There are 1,110 students enrolled in the mini-term A session. According to the Office of Assessment and Institutional Research, if a student were enrolled in both sessions, the student is included in both sets of numbers.
The majority of students attending classes for the summer are enrolled in three to six credit hours.
According to the Academic Affairs office, the amount of classes that are being offered this summer is about the same as last summer. Allayne Barrilleaux, assistant vice president for Academic Affairs said that the difference is only a few classes.
The College of Education has the largest number of students attending summer school, followed by University College, College of Business Administration, College of Arts and Sciences, Nursing and Allied Health and Chef John Folse Culinary Institute respectively.
