Fete de la Famille, or Family Day, will be held Saturday before the Colonel football game against North Dakota State.Fete de la Famille will be held from noon to 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot between John L. Guidry Stadium and the University Police Station. It will consist of numerous activities for the family to participate in provided by many departments and student organizations, according to Brenda Haskins, executive director of auxiliary services and chairperson of Family Day.
“I think we have almost 50 departments or student organizations who are signed up for that (Family Day) so that should be great,” Haskins said. “We should have all kinds of things going on.”
Student Programming Association, Student Government Association, Peer Assistance, University Honors Program and the Art club are just a few of the student organizations that will have booths set up with activities for families to enjoy.
Amy Borne, president of SPA, said airbrush tattoos, a caricature artist, bouncing boxing, gladiator joust, bungee run, an obstacle course, a Velcro wall and a rock wall will all be provided by SPA and the Student Union Board.
Borne also said that face painting will be done by the Art Club. Additionally, there will be a machine available that will take pictures and then replicate them on T-shirts free of charge.
Ryan Bonvillain, vice president of the University Honors Program, said the Honors Program will have a table set up with a game for children and will be passing out information about their program to any parents or students who stop by.
According to SGA director of public relations Hollie Garrison, the SGA Senate will be holding a contest for the most spirited table.
“We will give a plaque and a framed certificate to the most spirited university department and the most spirited student organization,” Garrison said. “We have some faculty judges who are going to rate each on how involved they get the families in their activity and how well the activity relates to their department or their organization’s mission.”
Garrison also said SGA will be registering people to vote along with asking students to fill out cards to oppose a funding cut for higher education the next time it comes up for a vote.
Student director of Peer Assistance Eric Haydel said Peer Assistance is partnering with University Health Services to provide activities geared toward children.
“We’re going to be doing a pick a lollipop game, and the child who gets the black mark on the sucker is going to get a prize,” Haydel said.
Haskins also said that Southern Image, an area band, will provide music during the afternoon.
Popcorn, hot dogs, hamburgers and many other things will be available for purchase from the food booths along with many beverages according to Haskins. She said that unused tickets can be used to purchase concessions at the football game.
Haskins said tents for shade and places to eat will be provided by such businesses as Hibernia Bank, Redmond’s Monument, Community Bank and Buckner Rental.
A pep rally will be held at 3:30 p.m. featuring the Nicholls Band, Cheerleaders and Colonelettes. Additionally, those who attend Family Day will have the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to the Nicholls-North Dakota State game.
