Junior sprinter, Samantha Calhoun, has worked extremely hard to become a leader of the Nicholls State women’s track team. In the past two years, she has been able to rewrite some of the records held at Nicholls. She holds the schools 60 m, 100 m and 4×400 m race records. Before a recent practice session with her teammates, Calhoun sat down for an interview.
Q: What is your best memory of a track event?
A: I would have to say my best memory was in the Indoor Conference. Winning first place in the Distance Medley Relay was the most amazing moment.
Q: How often do you work out to stay in shape for track season?
A: I run about three or four times a week, and I lift weights when I get the chance. I like to do more of distance-type running during the summer.
Q: When you’re not busy with school or track, what’s your favorite hobby to do?
A: I just like to hangout. I really don’t do too much except chill with my friends.
Q: What is your perfect idea of a Saturday night?
A: My perfect Saturday night is just hanging out at my apartment with my friends while we watch movies.
Q: What was your most embarrassing moment at a track event? Why?
A: Last year at Crawfish Day, I was going to track practice and I decided to jump over a fence, and I fell. That had to be my most embarrassing moment of my life!
Q: If you only could have one television channel on your TV, what would it be and why?
A: I think it would have to be FOX because they have a variety of shows.
Q: Who is your favorite musical artist, and what your favorite song from that artist?
A: My favorite artist is Lyfe, and I really don’t have a favorite song of his because I like them all.
Q: What is your favorite sport to watch?

Q: Would you rather spend a vacation on a beach in Florida or on the mountains of Colorado?
A: Beach! I just like the atmosphere because of the wind and the water.
Q: What is your current favorite class you are taking?
A: I’m taking an online class, Human Sexuality, and to me that’s the most interesting class I’m taking.
Q: What are your plans to do after you graduate from Nicholls?
